Navien NPE-210S2 Condensing Tankless Water Heater
The Navien NPE-210S2 is a 0.96 UEF, ENERGY STAR certified condensing tankless water heater with a 180,000 BTU/h maximum input and up to 10.1 GPM of hot water. It is the second-largest of the four NPE-S2 models, below the 199,900 BTU/h NPE-240S2, and is built for homes that want endless hot water without a built-in recirculation tank. Installed price on request: GSHA Services, LTD provides a free installation estimate for the NPE-210S2.
Description
Who the Navien NPE-210S2 suits
The Navien NPE-210S2 is a good fit for a typical two- to three-bathroom home that wants endless hot water and is willing to wait a few extra seconds at the tap compared with a recirculating model. Navien rates it at 180,000 BTU/h maximum input, with 10.1 GPM at a 35°F temperature rise, 7.1 GPM at 50°F and 5.0 GPM at a 70°F rise. In a northern Illinois winter, the incoming water is cold enough that the higher temperature rises are the ones that matter. As a rule of thumb, plan on roughly two showers at once, or one shower plus a dishwasher or washing machine. If your household regularly runs more than that at the same time, look at the larger NPE-240S2; if you want less wait time for hot water at far-off fixtures, consider the NPE-210A2 with built-in ComfortFlow recirculation.
Benefits of the NPE-210S2
- Endless hot water, sized for most families. Because it heats water on demand, the NPE-210S2 does not run out the way a tank does. Its flow ratings (10.1 GPM at a 35°F rise, 5.3 GPM at a 67°F rise) determine how many fixtures can run at once in a Midwest winter, which is why we size from those numbers rather than from the tank you have today.
- 0.96 UEF, ENERGY STAR certified. UEF is the federal efficiency rating for water heaters, and higher is better. The NPE-210S2 is a condensing unit: a second stainless steel heat exchanger captures heat from the exhaust, which is why the efficiency is this high and why it uses PVC venting and a condensate drain. Higher efficiency generally means lower gas use for the same hot water.
- Dual stainless steel heat exchangers. Navien specifies stainless steel for both the primary and secondary heat exchangers. Navien’s residential heat exchanger warranty is 15 years with standard or controlled recirculation (see warranty below).
- Wall-hung and compact. At 17.3 in. wide, 27.4 in. tall and 13.2 in. deep, and 73 lb, the unit hangs on a wall and frees the floor space a 40- or 50-gallon tank used to take.
- Easier to fit in an existing home. Navien allows 2 in. PVC vent runs up to 75 ft and, where local code permits, a 1/2 in. gas line up to 24 ft, which often means the unit can go where the old tank was without a new gas line or a large vent. It runs on natural gas or propane, and the EZNav front panel lets you adjust settings at the unit; NaviLink Wi-Fi control and NaviCirc recirculation can be added.
Navien NPE-210S2 installation cost and estimate
Request an installation estimate. GSHA Services, LTD does not publish a package price for the NPE-210S2. The installed price depends on your home, so we confirm it with a free on-site estimate. For reference, our standard Navien tankless installation is a complete installed package, not equipment only. It typically includes:

- Recirculation valve kit
- Removal and disposal of the old water heater
- Professional start-up and safety inspection
Your estimate confirms the exact scope for the NPE-210S2.
What can change the final quote: gas line capacity and length, the venting route and length, where the condensate can drain, water quality treatment, electrical work, piping or zoning changes, permits, accessories such as NaviLink or NaviCirc, and how accessible the installation location is. The estimate is free. Financing is available with approved credit.

Installation and warranty
GSHA Services, LTD is a Navien Service Specialist (NSS) and an authorized Navien dealer, listed on Navien’s installer locator at navieninc.com, with Navien Level 3 trained technicians. We install and service Navien NPE-2 tankless water heaters throughout McHenry County and Lake County, IL, and the surrounding Chicago suburbs and southeastern Wisconsin. See our service area for the full list of communities.
Navien residential limited warranty (NPE-S2): 1 year labor, 5 years parts and 15 years on the heat exchanger for standard or controlled recirculation. If a recirculation pump runs continuously without control by the water heater or an aquastat, Navien’s uncontrolled-recirculation terms apply instead: 3 years parts and 5 years heat exchanger. Warranty periods run from the date of original installation, and the homeowner or installer must provide that date (and proof on request) to Navien. Navien also voids the warranty for units bought online or through unauthorized channels, for improper or unlicensed installation, and for use in space-heating-only applications.
GSHA Install-Right coverage: our Navien tankless installation packages add 5-year labor and 5-year parts coverage from GSHA Services, LTD. The labor coverage is valid only with annual GSHA maintenance, and service by others voids it. Our tankless packages also carry lifetime warranties on the water, gas and venting connections we make. Ask for the written terms with your estimate.
Optional add-ons (Navien lists both as compatible with the NPE-S2 series): NaviCirc recirculation valve, $99.60. NaviCirc is an add-on valve that recirculates hot water through your existing pipes when there is no dedicated return line, cutting the wait at distant fixtures; it needs an external pump. NaviLink Lite Wi-Fi control, $153.55, or NaviLink Wi-Fi control, $288.43, let you monitor and adjust the unit from your phone. Prices shown are GSHA price-book prices for these accessories; your estimate confirms whether installation is included.
Navien NPE-210S2 FAQs
How much does a Navien NPE-210S2 cost installed?
GSHA Services, LTD provides the installed price for the NPE-210S2 on a free estimate rather than as a published package. The quote covers a complete installed package: the unit, venting, gas and water piping changes, condensate drain, valves, start-up and removal of the old heater. Gas line, venting route, condensate drain location and accessories are the main items that move the number. Financing is available with approved credit.
Is the NPE-210S2 big enough for my house?
For most two- to three-bathroom homes, yes. Navien rates it at 7.1 GPM at a 50°F rise and 5.0 GPM at a 70°F rise, which as a rule of thumb supports two showers at once in a northern Illinois winter. Larger households or homes with body-spray showers or a big soaking tub should look at the NPE-240S2 or a cascaded two-unit setup. We check your fixtures and incoming water temperature during the estimate.
What is the difference between the NPE-210S2 and the NPE-210A2?
The NPE-210A2 adds Navien’s ComfortFlow system: a built-in buffer tank and recirculation pump that shorten hot-water wait time and smooth out temperature swings. The NPE-210S2 has no built-in tank or pump, which makes it simpler and lighter; recirculation can be added with a NaviCirc valve and an external pump if you want it later.
Does the NPE-210S2 need special venting?
Yes. Like all condensing units it needs its own direct-vent run: 2 in. or 3 in. PVC, CPVC, polypropylene or stainless steel, with 2 in. PVC allowed up to 75 ft per Navien. Because it is a condensing unit, the exhaust is cool enough for plastic pipe, and a condensate drain is needed; GSHA’s standard installation includes the venting, the drain line and a condensate neutralizer kit.
Can it run on propane?
Yes. The NPE-210S2 ships set for natural gas and is field convertible to propane with the conversion kit Navien supplies with the unit. Navien lists the same 0.96 UEF and 12,000 to 180,000 BTU/h input for natural gas and propane.
Who registers the warranty?
You or GSHA can supply the installation date to Navien; Navien’s NPE-S2 warranty terms require the original installation date (and proof on request) rather than a separate registration form. Your GSHA invoice records the installation date, so keep it with your proof of purchase. Navien asks that warranty service go through the original installer first, so call us if you ever need a claim, and ask us at start-up if you want help providing the date to Navien.
