The Core Install is a code-compliant installation on a durable gravel pad: permit handling, NFPA/NEC-compliant site prep, gas load calculation, professional gas/electrical/low-voltage hookups, automatic transfer switch installation, EMT conduit and wiring, Schedule-40 black-steel gas line with pressure testing, and full activation and load testing. If your home needs more than this to meet code, such as a larger transfer switch or load management, your written quote will list it. What is included and what is quoted separately is listed below the models.

Basic installation (Core Install) includes: the generator, a standard automatic transfer switch, a gravel pad, connecting the transfer switch to your electrical panel, standard gas and electric work with 10 feet of gas and electric piping installed above grade from the source to the generator, permit handling, start-up and testing. Quoted separately: the building permit fee your town or county charges, longer or harder runs (charged per foot), electrical upgrades, other site conditions and any add-ons your home needs or you choose. You get a written quote after a free on-site estimate.
Add-ons, quoted separately
- A larger or different automatic transfer switch when your electrical service calls for one: 100A, 150A, 200A, 300A or 400A. Many are available with built-in surge protection, and some with a built-in breaker panel (load center)
- Load management, which staggers large appliances so the generator is not overloaded: Generac 50A and 100A load managers, and for some sizes the Generac HVAC Energy Manager or the ecobee by Generac smart thermostat
- Cold-weather kits: battery heater, oil heater and breather heater (Generac recommends the battery and oil heaters where temperatures regularly fall below 32°F, which includes northern Illinois winters, so we recommend them for homes in our area)
- Propane tank level monitor
- Soft starter for your air conditioner, so it needs less power to start
- Pre-cast concrete base in place of the gravel pad
