I have used GSHA for two complete home air and heating installations, my first was in Crystal Lake I never had any issues. Peter sent in a team that removed the old equipment and replaced all connected components that were to be attached to the new components, assuring smooth future operations. I felt confident that the job was done properly. I never had any issues. Service was never an issue either, they did annual service checks and through the fantastic warranty is all hands down and beat any other company we researched. Upon selling the home in Crystal Lake I move 100 mile south. My only concern was that GSHA didn’t service the area. Atter 6 month of moving into the new home and being discouraged with other companies I called Maria from GSHA and she said they do service the Bourbonnais area. Peter the owner drove all the way down here and in 2 days the heart and soul of my home was beating again with the quality and best warranty a company can offer. I had made other inquiries with the local Havc companies during the first 4 months of living down here and discovered return service calls were late in coming and the slap shot work done on some of my plumbing from Bennett Heating and Air was a disaster and disappointing. No warranties for the work done just give them the money. You don’t get that with GSHA, you call and they come and fix it, no worries. They are very professional, affordable and they work with you. I have peace of mind and know the work was done right and they will always be there. Hats off to Raymondo and his brother and also Jacob and D.J.. A huge thank you to Peter and Maria. My moto is….GSHA is, The best in the Midwest.

Generator Prices and Installation Cost

The cost of setting up a generator can vary widely depending on several factors such as the type and size of the generator, installation requirements, local labor rates, and any additional components or accessories needed.

  • The price of the generator itself varies based on its power capacity and brand. Whole-home standby generators typically range from $5,000 to $15,000 or more, depending on the size and features.
  • Installation costs include labor charges for preparing the site, electrical wiring, fuel line connections, and mounting the generator. For whole-home generators, installation costs can range from $3,000 to $10,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the installation and local labor rates.
  • Additional costs may include electrical permits, fuel line installation (for natural gas or propane), and any necessary upgrades to the electrical panel to accommodate the generator.
  • Optional accessories such as remote monitoring systems, automatic transfer switches (ATS), maintenance kits, and extended warranties can add to the overall cost.

Benefits Of Generator Installation

Installing a generator can provide several benefits, depending on whether it’s for residential or commercial use. Here are some key benefits of generator installation:

  • Continuous power supply – Ensures that essential appliances like refrigerators, lights, heating/cooling systems, and medical equipment remain operational during power outages.
  • Comfort and convenience – Maintains comfort levels by keeping HVAC systems running and providing hot water, especially crucial during extreme weather conditions.
  • Security – Ensures security systems, including alarms and surveillance cameras, remain operational, enhancing home security during outages.
  • Peace of mind – Provides reassurance and peace of mind knowing that there is a backup power source available in case of emergencies or natural disasters.
  • Increased property value – Adds value to residential and commercial properties by having a reliable backup power system in place.

Whole House Generator Installation

Whole House Generator Installation
As experts in home standby power, we are in the best possible position to install your system quickly, professionally and cost effectively. We strongly encourage you to request a free, no obligation quote to make sure you get the correct size generator for your needs, not just for the size of your house. If you decide to purchase, installation is fast and easy. Here is what is involved:

  1. Choosing a site – When considering the location for your generator, you will want to find a stable area that is well-drained and does not flood. Keep in mind that the generator cannot be closer than 3 feet from utility meters, air conditioning units, combustibles or anything serviceable. And the closer the site is to the electric meter and the natural gas supply line, the more you’ll save on installation. Once the site is chosen, we will take care of any required local permits.
  2. Installing a generator – Prior to placing the generator, the site needs to be prepared. Usually this is achieved by putting down a bed of pea gravel or pouring a cement slab. We will make sure the placement allows for all the right clearances (18” from the house, 60” from doors, windows and fresh air intakes, 36” in front to allow for a technician to perform any future checkups or maintenance).
  3. Connecting fuel and electrical – With the generator itself in place, a transfer switch will be installed next to your main breaker box (in some cases it may replace the breaker box entirely). Wiring is then run, in conduit, between the generator and the breaker box. Then the fuel line is installed.
  4. Simulating an outage – Once installation is complete, we will simulate a power outage to make sure your new generator and transfer switch work exactly as they should in the event of a power outage. The final step is setting up your generator’s “exercise,” a weekly test run to ensure that everything is in good working order and ready for a power outage.

How Much Backup Generator Power Do I Need?

To determine the right size backup generator for your needs, start by calculating the total wattage requirements of essential appliances and equipment you need powered during an outage. Begin with listing and assessing the starting and running wattage of each device. Next, ensure to account for surge capacity, critical for devices like refrigerators and pumps. Once you’ve totaled your wattage needs, consider generator sizes ranging from small (3,000-5,000 watts) for basic home needs to larger units (10,000+ watts) capable of running entire households or commercial setups.

What Kind Of Maintenance Does a Whole-Home Generator Require?

Maintaining a whole-home generator involves regular inspections for wear and damage, changing oil and filters as recommended, checking and charging the battery, monitoring coolant levels, exercising the generator periodically, testing its load capacity, inspecting the transfer switch, replacing air filters, and scheduling annual professional service. These steps help ensure reliable operation during power outages and extend the generator’s lifespan.
