About this model
The NPE-210A was the middle size in Navien’s first-generation NPE-Advanced (NPE-A) line of condensing tankless water heaters. It is a wall-hung gas unit rated up to 180,000 BTU/h that delivers hot water on demand rather than storing it in a tank. “Condensing” means a second stainless steel heat exchanger captures heat from the exhaust, which is why the efficiency rating is high and why the unit uses PVC venting and needs a condensate drain.
The “A” in the model name stands for Advanced: the NPE-210A includes Navien’s ComfortFlow system, a built-in buffer tank and recirculation pump that shorten the wait for hot water at the tap and smooth out temperature swings.
Its UEF (the federal efficiency rating for water heaters; higher is better) was 0.96. Its flow rate of 10.1 GPM at a 35°F temperature rise drops to 5.0 GPM at a 67°F rise, which is closer to what a Midwest winter demands. That drop is why sizing to the number of fixtures you run at the same time matters.
