Description

Who the Navien NPF700-100H5CH suits

The Navien NPF700-100H5CH is a horizontal condensing hydro-furnace for homes with ductwork. A hydro-furnace (Navien calls it a hydronic furnace) heats water in a sealed internal loop and moves that heat into the airstream through a coil, so you get the even, gentle warmth of hot-water heat through your existing ducts. The horizontal cabinet is built for attic and crawl-space installations where an upright furnace will not fit. With a gas input range of 14,000 to 100,000 BTU/h and airflow up to 2,000 CFM, it can move the air for a 2 to 5 ton air-conditioning coil, which typically covers mid-size to larger single-family homes. The 14,000 BTU/h low end matters in the Midwest: on mild shoulder-season days the furnace idles at a low fire instead of cycling on and off, which keeps rooms at a steady temperature. GSHA Services, LTD sizes the unit to your home’s heat loss and duct system before quoting, for homeowners in McHenry County and Lake County, IL, and the surrounding Chicago suburbs and southeastern Wisconsin.

Benefits you will notice

  • 97% AFUE efficiency. AFUE is the heating-efficiency rating: 97% means nearly all of the gas you buy becomes heat in your ducts. That is possible because this is a condensing furnace, which captures extra heat from the exhaust; the trade-off is that it needs PVC venting and a condensate drain.
  • 15 to 100% variable capacity. The burner modulates from 14,000 to 100,000 BTU/h. Turndown ratio describes how low a burner can run, and a wide turndown reduces short cycling, so you get fewer temperature swings and less on-off noise.
  • Quiet, variable-speed airflow. The 1.0 HP ECM blower ramps up and down with the load instead of running full blast every cycle, so you hear fewer hard starts and less rush of air at the registers.
  • Adjustable, comfortable air temperature. Discharge air can be set from 95 to 150 degrees F, so the air coming from your registers feels warm rather than drafty.
  • Flexible venting and fuel. Vents in 2-inch PVC up to 70 feet or 3-inch up to 140 feet, with zero clearance to combustibles, which opens up more routing options. Runs on natural gas or propane; the LP conversion kit is included.

Price and installation estimate

Installed package price: $6,331.72

GSHA quotes the Navien NPF700-100H5CH as an installed package. Because the price book has no standard NPF installation scope line, your free written estimate confirms exactly what the $6,331.72 includes for your home. Your GSHA technician walks through the scope with you before any work is scheduled.

What can change the final quote: gas line capacity and length, the venting route and length, the condensate drain route, water-quality treatment, electrical work (this unit needs a dedicated 120 V, 20 A circuit), zoning and duct or piping changes, permits, optional accessories, and how accessible the attic or crawl space is. Financing is available with approved credit.

Installation and warranty

Installation. GSHA Services, LTD is a Navien Service Specialist (NSS) and an authorized Navien dealer, listed on Navien’s installer locator, with Navien Level 3 trained technicians. The installation scope for your home (equipment, venting, condensate drain, gas and electrical connections, removal of the old furnace and start-up, as applicable) is written into your free estimate, so you know what is included before work begins.

Navien limited warranty (single-family residential, original owner). When the unit is registered online with Navien within 60 days of installation: 1 year labor, 10 years parts, and a limited lifetime warranty on the combustion heat exchanger. If it is registered 61 days or later, coverage is 1 year labor, 5 years parts, and 20 years on the combustion heat exchanger. Proof of the installation date must be provided to Navien; without it, Navien counts the warranty from six months after the manufacture date. Coverage requires installation and service by a qualified HVAC professional using genuine Navien parts, and units bought over the internet are not covered. Register the unit online with Navien within 60 days of installation and keep your GSHA invoice, which shows the installation date Navien requires. Full terms: Navien NPF warranty.

GSHA Install-Right coverage. GSHA’s own labor coverage on Navien installations is separate from Navien’s warranty and is spelled out on your written estimate for this model. Where it applies, labor coverage is valid only with annual GSHA maintenance, and service by another company voids GSHA’s labor coverage.

Frequently asked questions

What is a hydro-furnace, and how is it different from a regular gas furnace?

A hydro-furnace heats water in a sealed internal loop and blows air across a coil, instead of passing air directly over a flame-heated metal exchanger. The Navien NPF still has its own gas burner, so it does not need a separate boiler. Homeowners notice steadier, softer heat and a quieter cycle.

How much does the Navien NPF700-100H5CH cost installed?

GSHA’s installed package price is $6,331.72, and the free written estimate confirms what the package includes for your home. Gas line changes, long vent runs, condensate routing, electrical work, duct modifications, permits and accessories can change the final figure.

Is the NPF700-100H5CH the right size for my home?

It typically fits mid-size to larger single-family homes with ductwork, but the only reliable answer comes from a heat-loss calculation and a look at your ducts, which GSHA does before recommending a size. It modulates between 14,000 and 100,000 BTU/h and delivers up to 2,000 CFM, enough for a 2 to 5 ton cooling coil. A smaller horizontal model, the NPF700-060H3BH, is available for smaller loads.

Can it work with my air conditioner or a heat pump?

Yes. The blower is rated for 2,000 CFM of cooling airflow and nominal 2 to 5 ton coils, and Navien lists the NPF series as dual-fuel capable for pairing with a heat pump.

Does it need special venting?

Yes, because it is a condensing furnace. It vents through 2-inch or 3-inch PVC, CPVC or approved polypropylene (up to 70 or 140 feet respectively) and needs a condensate drain. Zero clearance to combustibles makes routing easier in attics and crawl spaces.

Does the Navien warranty require registration?

No. The warranty applies either way, but registering online within 60 days of installation raises parts coverage from 5 to 10 years and the combustion heat exchanger from 20 years to limited lifetime. Labor is 1 year either way. Keep your GSHA invoice as proof of the installation date Navien requires.
