About this model

Carrier’s official name for the 24VNA0 is the Infinity Variable Speed Air Conditioner with Greenspeed Intelligence; “Infinity 20” is the dealer name, and the “0” in the model number denotes 20 SEER in Carrier’s nomenclature. It was one of Carrier’s Infinity-series variable-speed air conditioners and used Puron (R-410A) refrigerant. The specifications below are the ones Carrier published for this model when it was in production. This unit was rated under the earlier SEER/EER method; no SEER2 or EER2 figures for it appear in Carrier product data.

What those numbers meant day to day: the variable-speed compressor ran long, low cycles instead of switching on and off, which kept room temperatures steadier and pulled more humidity out of the air in a humid Illinois summer. At minimum speed the 2- and 3-ton sizes were rated at 58 dBA, noticeably quieter than a single-stage unit at full output. The trade-off is that the system depends on the Infinity wall control, so a failed or replaced control is part of any repair conversation.

Discontinued does not mean you have to replace your system. If your 24VNA0 is cooling properly and passes a maintenance check, keeping it in service is a reasonable choice. Current Carrier alternative

Carrier Infinity 21 Air Conditioner (26VNA1) – Carrier has not named a direct successor to the 24VNA0, but the Infinity 21 is the current variable-speed Infinity air conditioner and the closest equivalent Carrier offers today. It uses Puron Advance (R-454B) refrigerant and requires the Infinity System Control.

R-454B cannot be added to an existing R-410A system, and an existing R-410A system does not need to be replaced simply because of its refrigerant.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Carrier Infinity 20 (24VNA0) still made?

The 24VNA0 is not in Carrier’s current residential air conditioner lineup. Carrier’s current variable-speed Infinity model is the Infinity 21 (26VNA1), which uses R-454B refrigerant.

Can I still get my Infinity 20 repaired?

Do I have to replace my system because it is discontinued?

No. A discontinued model can keep running for years with normal maintenance and repairs. Replacement makes sense when a major component such as the compressor fails, when repair costs approach the value of the system, or when you want the efficiency and warranty of new equipment. A repair visit will tell you which situation you are in.

What replaces the Infinity 20?

Carrier has not designated a direct replacement. The closest current Carrier alternative is the Infinity 21 (26VNA1), a variable-speed model with Greenspeed Intelligence that requires the Infinity System Control. It is offered in 2, 3, 4 and 5 tons, the same range as the 24VNA0.

Can a new R-454B unit connect to my existing indoor coil?

Usually not. In most replacements the indoor coil is replaced along with the outdoor unit so the two are a matched R-454B system; line-set and control compatibility are checked at the same time. Our free in-home estimate determines exactly what your system needs.
