The Carrier 24SPA6 was sold as the Performance 16 single-stage air conditioner with Puron (R-410A) refrigerant. A single-stage unit runs at full capacity when the thermostat calls for cooling and shuts off at the set point; it works with a standard thermostat and was offered in 1.5- to 5-ton sizes.

The specifications below are Carrier’s published figures for the 24SPA6 itself, not for any newer model. Carrier published both legacy SEER/EER and SEER2/EER2 ratings for this model; both are shown and labeled.

The 26SPA6 uses Carrier’s current R-454B refrigerant (Puron Advance), the lower-global-warming-potential refrigerant in Carrier’s current residential line. R-454B cannot be added to an existing R-410A system, and an existing R-410A system does not need to be replaced because of its refrigerant.
