About this model

The Carrier 24ACB7 was sold as the Performance 17 two-stage air conditioner with Puron (R-410A) refrigerant. Its two-stage scroll compressor runs at 75% capacity in low stage and steps up to 100% when the house needs more cooling. Longer, gentler low-stage cycles are why owners notice steadier temperatures and better humidity control than a single-stage unit gives. It was offered in 2, 3, 4 and 5-ton sizes and works with a Thermidistat or a standard two-stage thermostat.

Carrier’s last product data for this model was published in December 2021. The specifications below are Carrier’s original ratings for the 24ACB7; they are legacy SEER and EER figures, because Carrier never published SEER2 or EER2 ratings for this model.

Carrier has not named a direct successor to the 24ACB7. The closest current model is the Carrier Performance 18 (26TPA8): it is Carrier’s current two-stage Performance series air conditioner, so it delivers the same kind of low-stage humidity control the 24ACB7 was chosen for, in the same 2, 3, 4 and 5-ton sizes.

The 26TPA8 uses Carrier’s current R-454B refrigerant (Puron Advance), the lower-global-warming-potential refrigerant in Carrier’s current residential line. R-454B cannot be added to an existing R-410A system, and an existing R-410A system does not need to be replaced because of its refrigerant.
