About this model

The Carrier 24SCA5 was sold as the Comfort 15 single-stage central air conditioner with Puron (R-410A) refrigerant. It runs at one speed, cycling on and off as the thermostat calls for cooling, works with a standard thermostat and was offered in 1.5- to 5-ton sizes.

Carrier now uses the Comfort 16 name for the current R-454B model, the 26SCA5, which this site previously listed as the Comfort 15; the 24SCA5 on this page is the earlier R-410A Comfort 15.

The specifications below are Carrier’s published figures for the 24SCA5 itself, not for any newer model. Carrier published both legacy SEER/EER and SEER2/EER2 ratings for this model; both are shown and labeled.

Carrier has not named a direct successor to the 24SCA5. The closest current model is the Carrier Comfort 16 Air Conditioner (26SCA5): Carrier’s current single-stage Comfort series model (previously listed on this site as the Comfort 15). It is Carrier’s current single-stage Comfort model in the same 1.5- to 5-ton range, and it now carries the Comfort 16 name. It is offered in 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4 and 5 tons and is installed by GSHA Services, LTD as a complete installed package with a free in-home estimate; installed pricing by size is on its product page.

The 26SCA5 uses Carrier’s current R-454B refrigerant (Puron Advance), the lower-global-warming-potential refrigerant in Carrier’s current residential line. R-454B cannot be added to an existing R-410A system, and an existing R-410A system does not need to be replaced because of its refrigerant. A change from the 24SCA5 to the 26SCA5 is a full system change rather than a swap of the outdoor unit alone, and a free in-home estimate confirms the correct size and the matching indoor coil.
